I am interested in how a species\u2019 ecology and social structure shape its natural behavioural repertoire, particularly its <strong>foraging ecology<\/strong>. My work focuses on large-brained, long-lived bird species \u2013 <strong>corvids and parrots<\/strong> \u2013 and I investigate<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/barbaraklump.com\/?page_id=135\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> tool use behaviour<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/barbaraklump.com\/?page_id=139\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">foraging traditions<\/a> <\/strong>and <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/barbaraklump.com\/?page_id=151\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">vocal convergence<\/a><\/strong>. I work in a variety of habitats, from <strong>remote rainforests<\/strong> to <strong>major cities<\/strong>, and my work ranges from classic observations of wild animals to cleverly designed <strong>experiments with captive subjects<\/strong> and the use of <strong>cutting-edge data collection<\/strong> and analysis techniques.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>I lead a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wwtf.at\/wwtf\/about-us\/\">WWTF<\/a> Vienna Research Group for Young Investigators at the University of Vienna, Austria, where we investigate the cognition and ecology of extractive foraging without tools in carrion and hooded crows as well as sulphur-crested cockatoos.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n<hr \/>\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I am a behavioural ecologist&#8230; &#8230; with a broad interest in animal cognition, social behaviour, acoustic communication and how they interact with each other.
